Leah Delaney Originally Hails From London, England

Despite their fame, or perhaps because of it, Leah Delaney and her husband are a couple that likes to shield their private lives from the public. It is difficult to get a full picture of what her personal background looks like, but we do have some pertinent details. Sources have it that Leah Delaney originally hails from London, England, and was born on the 2nd of April 1978, which makes her a year younger than her famous husband. She had a good childhood and completed her secondary school education. After that, she proceeded to college, where she obtained a degree in sociology.

Leah Delaney is, therefore, a college graduate, and this is one of the traits that she shares with her husband, Rob Delaney. Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, Rob Delaney attended the New York Tisch School of the Arts and studied performance. He planned to end up in musicals someday and never even gave a thought to comedy. Watching the likes of Amy Poehler and Tina Fey later made him have a rethink, and he refocused his attention on comedy.

She is a Teacher and a Stylist

Before getting married to Rob Delaney, Leah Delaney earned her living as a teacher and stylist. She also spent a good deal of time volunteering with various charities. Leah Delaney has since scaled down her level of professional and charitable pursuits since she got married and started a family with her husband (welcoming four kids in the space of eight years). However, they hope that she will return to these activities now that their baby-making days are over and she can have more time to herself. While Leah Delaney is bidding the time until she can get back to teaching, her husband, Rob Delaney, is going full throttle with his career.

Upon graduation from school in 1999, Delaney spent the next several years as a struggling comic, doing standup, writing, and occasional acting gigs. He would later get his breakthrough a decade later through Twitter. Rob was a master at hurling 140-characters or less nuggets online, and he soon amassed hundreds of thousands of followers on the platform. He garnered a reputation as one of the funniest persons on Twitter, and around 2014, an Irish comic and actress, Sharon Hogan, reached out to him for a collaboration. That collaboration eventually yielded the hit British sitcom known as Catastrophe.

Catastrophe features Rob and Sharon as a couple who accidentally get pregnant after a brief fling and decide to make a go of their relationship. The series debuted on TV screens in 2015 and was a resounding success. It received much viewership and was renewed for three more seasons. It also fetched Rob and Sharon several accolades, including best comedy writers at the 2016 BAFTA TV Craft Awards. Catastrophe came to an end in 2019, but Rob Delaney is not slowing down. He has appeared in blockbuster movies such as Deadpool 2 and Hobbs & Shaw. He has also penned a bestselling memoir and has his comedy special, Rob Delaney: Live at the Bowery Ballroom, on Comedy Central and Netflix.

Leah and Rob Delaney Began Their Relationship in 2004 and Wed Shortly After

Leah Delaney and Rob Delaney have been married for more than 15 years now, and their love story began in 2004. Two years before that time, Rob had been involved in an accident due to his intoxication and had to undergo multiple surgeries. He spent several months in recuperation and, during this period, was touched by the volunteers who came around to keep him company. The comic decided that he would one day pay it forward, and so by 2004, he volunteered for a week at a summer camp in Massachusetts. The camp catered to adults and kids suffering from disabilities such as cerebral palsy and Down’s syndrome, and Rob served as their care attendant and counselor. The work was quite physically tasking, but to the comic, it was fun as it made him feel good about himself.

During this time at volunteering, Rob met Leah, who was also volunteering at the same camp. They got talking and pretty soon commenced a relationship. Thereafter, they tied the knot and have been together ever since then. Despite so many years of marriage, Leah and Rob Delaney remain smitten with each other. They love nothing better than hanging out together, doing jigsaw puzzles, watching movies, and reading the same book. The couple is not perfect by any measure. Rob Delaney will be the first to tell you that there is horror, pain, and drudgery in their marriage. The comic wouldn’t have it any other way, as he is wholly devoted to the woman who violently kidnapped his heart, dropped it in a dirty bag, and dragged it off to her lair forever.

The Couple Have Four Sons Together

Leah Delaney and her husband have welcomed a total of four sons in the course of their union. Their names are not publicly available, but we know that the first was born around 2012 while the second was born around 2014. Their third son, Henry, was born in mid-2015, while their last son was born in August 2018. Leah Delaney and her husband previously made their home in the U.S., but they relocated to the U.K. around 2014 so that Rob could film his British sitcom.

They remain in London to date and have an enviable family life. Rob loves nothing better than having his kids pile atop him or kissing their smelly heads good night. He has also revealed that being a good father is a greater accomplishment than anything that he could ever do in his career. The comic has meanwhile revealed that he got a vasectomy after their fourth child. This is to enable Leah to spread her wings and pursue her dreams, travel, and work, etc.

Leah Delaney and her Husband Lost Their Son, Henry, to Brain Cancer in February 2018

Leah Delaney and her husband have suffered their share of severe grief and heartache. The couple’s third child, Henry, passed away in January 2018 at the age of two and a half. Henry was just a couple of months old when he was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2016. As you can imagine, it was devastating for the entire family, but Leah and her husband hung in there. They coped by focusing on their family as well as work. They also spent copious amounts of time with their little son in the hospital. It was a heart-wrenching moment for all involved, and Henry later passed away in January 2018.

Rob has been quite vocal about his son’s death as he wants to help other families who are going through a similar experience have some relief. The comic has also used his son’s health to highlight the gap between the healthcare systems in the U.K. and the U.S. According to him, if they had been back in America when Henry got sick, they would have been too busy wrangling with insurance companies to spend quality time with their son. However, thanks to the NHS system in the U.K., they didn’t have to worry over costs but spent every last second lavishing their love on their son.

Despite this respite from the U.K. healthcare system, the whole experience took a huge toll on Leah and Rob and was further complicated by Leah’s death during the whole thing. They welcomed their fourth son a few months after Henry passed, and Rob later revealed that he feared that he wouldn’t be able to bond with the newborn. That was, however, not the case as he cherishes his new son. He also carries Henry in his heart and will do so forever. Rob has praised his wife’s strength for going on to have another child after burying her son.
