Leah Delaney and Rob Delaney have been married for more than 15 years now, and their love story began in 2004. Two years before that time, Rob had been involved in an accident due to his intoxication and had to undergo multiple surgeries. He spent several months in recuperation and, during this period, was touched by the volunteers who came around to keep him company. The comic decided that he would one day pay it forward, and so by 2004, he volunteered for a week at a summer camp in Massachusetts. The camp catered to adults and kids suffering from disabilities such as cerebral palsy and Down’s syndrome, and Rob served as their care attendant and counselor. The work was quite physically tasking, but to the comic, it was fun as it made him feel good about himself.
During this time at volunteering, Rob met Leah, who was also volunteering at the same camp. They got talking and pretty soon commenced a relationship. Leah Delaney and her husband have welcomed a total of four sons in the course of their union. Their names are not publicly available, but we know that the first was born around 2012 while the second was born around 2014. Their third son, Henry, was born in mid-2015, while their last son was born in August 2018. Leah Delaney and her husband previously made their home in the U.S., but they relocated to the U.K. around 2014 so that Rob could film his British sitcom.
They remain in London to date and have an enviable family life. Rob loves nothing better than having his kids pile atop him or kissing their smelly heads good night. He has also revealed that being a good father is a greater accomplishment than anything that he could ever do in his career. Leah Delaney and her husband have suffered their share of severe grief and heartache. The couple’s third child, Henry, passed away in January 2018 at the age of two and a half. Henry was just a couple of months old when he was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2016. As you can imagine, it was devastating for the entire family, but Leah and her husband hung in there. They coped by focusing on their family as well as work. They also spent copious amounts of time with their little son in the hospital. It was a heart-wrenching moment for all involved, and Henry later passed away in January 2018.
Rob has been quite vocal about his son’s death as he wants to help other families who are going through a similar experience have some relief. The comic has also used his son’s health to highlight the gap between the healthcare systems in the U.K. and the U.S. According to him, if they had been back in America when Henry got sick, they would have been too busy wrangling with insurance companies to spend quality time with their son. However, thanks to the NHS system in the U.K., they didn’t have to worry over costs but spent every last second lavishing their love on their son.
Despite this respite from the U.K. healthcare system, the whole experience took a huge toll on Leah and Rob and was further complicated by Leah’s death during the whole thing. They welcomed their fourth son a few months after Henry passed, and Rob later revealed that he feared that he wouldn’t be able to bond with the newborn. That was, however, not the case as he cherishes his new son. He also carries Henry in his heart and will do so forever. Rob has praised his wife’s strength for going on to have another child after burying her son.
