Chris met his first wife, Selena in 1989. Selena was in a band named Selena y Los Dinos at the time. The band’s bassist, AB Quintanilla heard about Chris from other bands. He then went ahead to ask if he was interested in joining their band, to which he said yes.

Chris said that his decision was because he saw potentials in the band. He went ahead to audition for the group’s manager, and after some complications, he was finally hired. In 1989, Chris and AB wrote Selena’s commercial jingle.

After the commercial was accepted, the band went on a vacation to Acapulco, Mexico, which was when Chris and Selena became attracted to each other. They eventually confessed their feelings for each other at a Pizza Hut, and they became an official couple afterward.

However, the couple hid the news of the relationship from Selena’s father out of fear that he would break them up. One way or the other, her father eventually found out about the relationship and refused to accept it. The pair continued their relationship despite her father’s disapproval.

One day, they got into a heated argument (Chris, Selena, and Abraham, her father) and in the spurn of the moment, Abraham Quintanilla fired Christopher because of his relationship with his daughter. After he was fired, he moved back to his father’s house and continued working on his music.

The Couple Eloped to Build Their Love For Each Other

Chris seemed to be moving on until Selena showed up at his apartment on the morning of April 2, 1992. She proposed the idea that they should get married that same day and elope together. Although Chris wasn’t in support of it at first, she persuaded him until he eventually gave in.

They kept the wedding ceremony between themselves and eloped that same day. They moved to Nueces County, Texas without her father’s awareness. The news of their marriage leaked to the media and it got to the ears of her father. Abraham did not take this lightly, but after seeing the couple’s love and adamancy, he finally accepted their union. After that, Chris was allowed to join the band again as a songwriter and guitarist.

Perez became a fully accepted member of the Quintanilla family after the marriage. He wrote songs for Abraham’s rock band in 1993.

Selena Was Murdered By Her Manager

In the spring of 1995, Abraham, Selena’s father, realized that Yolanda Saldivar, who managed Selena’s fan club and boutiques, was embezzling money. Her father organized a meeting to confirm the claims, of which Saldivar profusely denied stealing any money. Despite her father’s warnings, Selena remained friends with Saldivar.

On the 30th of March, 1995, the manager sent the wrong financial papers and requested that Selena should come for the right papers. Selena eventually went to get the papers and ended their four-year working relationship. Unfortunately, Saldivar got pissed and shot Selena with a Taurus Model 85.38 caliber revolver.

She was taken to the hospital by the workers, but on getting there, the case was already too serious to handle. She was pronounced dead within the hour. Chris was very much destabilized after the death of Selena. He loved her so much and the marriage had lasted only three years.

Perez could not eat for three straight days after her death and soon began to abuse alcohol and drugs. The guitarist said that he lived with guilt for a long time because he assumed he was to be blamed for not protecting Selena from Saldivar. Perez wallowed in pain for quite a long time before he was able to move on from her death. The guitarist was 26 years old when Selena died.

Chris Perez Remarried Six Years After His First Wife’s Death

He was introduced to Vanessa Villanueva by a mutual friend, John Garza in 1998. At that time, John Garza was the lead singer in Chris’ band. She is an actress and has appeared in a few movies like Forgotten Memories, and much more. Although, she is now a businesswoman with a nail salon/private spa to her name. The pair dated for three years before making it official on 26 December 2001.

People were happy that he was finally moving on from Selena’s death but the big blow came when the couple divorced in 2008. Chris affirmed that he got married with the hope that it would help him forget about the death of Selena. However, it seemed he was still hung up on her. He was also addicted to alcohol and drugs, causing him to have little attention for his wife and children. Vanessa couldn’t handle it any longer, so she decided to call it quits.

Chris’s first child, Cassie Gabrielle Perez was born in 1998, three years before his marriage to Vanessa. She is currently 26 years old. There is no information about her as she lives a low-key life. However, she is currently in a relationship with Mark Munoz, an active Twitch streamer. Cassie is also a mother to a dog named, Saint. She is the owner and creator of Ethereal Beauty, a brand that promotes healthy living and natural beauty.

Her younger brother and Chris’ second child, Noah Perez, was born on 5th April 2005, he is currently 19 years old. Considering his age, he is most likely a high school student, and he also does not have available information about him. It is however known that Noah has Down Syndrome and is an avid lover of music, just like his father. He also shares a very close bond with his sister, Cassie.
