The result shows that the DA improved on its 2011 performance of 56%.
However, a notable fall is recorded in the ANC’s support from 41% in 2011. This means that the ruling party lost votes to the EFF and the DA.
Meanwhile, results from the IEC Western Cape municipal election result desk on Thursday shows the DA winning. The party surpassed the ANC by clinching 49.2% of the votes cast. The ANC managed to get 42.2% of the votes; while Malema’s EFF got only 1.39% of the total votes.
DA’s victory in Beaufort West is the first of its kind as the town has been the traditional base of the ANC for so many years.
The ANC took over power in Beaufort West in 2011 after claiming 50.8% of total votes; leaving just 41.2% to the DA.
