It was a real twist of fate as renowned Nigerian photographer and singer Ty Bello was busy on a photo-shoot with British-born Nigerian rap artist Tinie Tempah when fate accidentally brought a woman selling bread into the shot.
That particular shot turned out so well that the photographer decided to make use of it. Ty Bello posted the photo on social media and automatically launched the bread seller to instant fame. The photo went viral with a lot of comments from people on how well she turned out in the photograph.
This motivated Ty Bello and she went on a quest to find the mystery photogenic woman who captured the hearts of many without even trying. She posted her picture on Instagram asking for help in locating her. She wrote –
WHO IS SHE. Everyone has been asking if this lady is a model… It was just a perfect coincidence… She just happened to be walking by while I photographed. It happened so fast. She definitely SHOULD be a model… I’m happy to help her build a portfolio if she’s interested. She’s so beautiful and photographed so well. I’ll find a way to track her down somehow . The mystery woman was eventually found and she turned out to be a 27-year-old mother of two named Olajumoke Orisaguna who worked as a hairstylist before moving on to hawking bread on the streets of Lagos to make ends meet. She is married to a man who installs sliding doors.
After Bello found her, she commissioned Nigerian makeup artist Bimpe Onakoya and leading hairstylist Zubby to do a total makeover on Orisaguna. Later, another colleague documented Orisaguna’s transformation and photo-shoot in a short documentary as directed by Bello.
Orisaguna’s life of poverty may soon be history as the twist of fate that led to her meeting with the photographer has not only landed her a modeling contract but also a spot on the cover of This Day Style, a Nigerian glossy fashion magazine.
