US songstress Toni Braxton has revealed that she was recently laid up in a hospital following a lupus flare-up.
As a result of the health scare, Braxton spent four days in a Los Angeles hospital. She was reportedly in a critical condition as a result of complications from the disease.
However, A rep for the singer refuted such claims saying “Toni is resting at home and she is fine.”
“She was in an LA hospital for a few days being treated for her Lupus,” Braxton’s rep said. “She has been released and starts rehearsals for her upcoming tour this week. She was not in serious condition, though Lupus is a serious disease and must be monitored at all times,” said the rep.
Toni Braxton’s Battle With Lupus
Braxton went public with her lupus diagnosis in a 2010 interview where she talked about her battle with systemic lupus erythematosus; an autoimmune disease. Consequently, the 48-year-old singer was hospitalized in 2012 following a bout with the disease. As a result, she’s been taking things easy while battling the disease that killed her uncle.
Speaking about her struggle with lupus, Braxton said in a 2015 interview;
“Pretty much when you have lupus you feel like you have the flu every day. But some days you get through it. But for me, if I’m not feeling well, I tend to tell my kids, ‘Oh mommy’s just going to relax in bed today.’ I kind of take it easy.”
Nevertheless, the singer never allowed the disease to encroach on her career. In fact, she never had to cancel a show because of it. Instead, she draws her strength from her fans and just sings.
“So often, when it’s like that, it’s a lot of, ‘You sing!’ to the audience, you know. They kind of help me out a little bit without realizing it,” she explained.
Meanwhile, her boyfriend Birdman quickly rushed to her side when he got the news of her latest health scare. Toni and Birdman started dating earlier this year.
