Tjovitjo: SABC 1’s New Drama Series Reigns Supreme

SABC 1’s new series, Tjovitjo which debuted in August is holding tight to the title as one of the most-watched drama series in the country.

The show has posed as a huge threat to Mzansi Magic’s hit show Is’thunzi and iNumber Number in the race for the crown.

In the latest Television Audience Measurement Survey (TAMS) figures released by the Broadcast Research Council (BRC), Tjovitjo raked in over 5.7-million viewers for its most popular episode in August.

Admittedly, this figure is a record for a limited-run drama series in the country. In addition, it was also 4.8-million ahead of Mzansi Magic’s popular drama iNumber Number.

iNumber Number was the third most popular show on Mzansi Magic, coming behind Our Perfect Wedding and Idols SA with 926,523 viewers tuning in for its episode on August 6. This is a bit backward for the show which premiered on July 9 with 1,141,604 viewers tuning in.

Apparently, iNumber Number hit the down-plunge when it clashed with Tjovitjo in the Sunday evening slot – 8PM. Both shows trend on social media each week because of their popularity among viewers.

Tjovitjo had only been on the small screen for one day and social media was set on fire, especially with the appearance of its lead actor Warren Masemola.

Undoubtedly one of the best actors in Mzansi, Warren captured the hearts of viewers once again with a show-stopping performance on the SABC 1’s new drama series. Though it’s no surprise at all, considering he has always slayed in all his roles, viewers couldn’t stop praising his performance on the much-anticipated show.

Though there were no guns and action scenes from the pantsula-themed show as anticipated, the performance by Warren kept the the show’s fan base on the increase and now it’s already competing with other popular shows on TV.
