‘The Only Way To End State Capture Is For Zuma To Resign’ – Vavi

As the days go by, the call for president Jacob Zuma’s resignation seem to be persistent with several issues pointing towards the possibility of his final fall. Former Cosatu leader Zwelinzima Vavi seem to have seen reasons why he must join the Zuma Must Fall campaign.

Giving out his supposed solution to seeing the end of state capture by the influential Gupta family, Vavi said the only way to clean up the crisis is for President Jacob Zuma to resign.

Vavi who claimed to have witnessed a meeting taking place between the Zumas and the Guptas before Zuma became president, said Zuma’s son Duduzane and one of the Gupta brothers met with the president of Equatorial Guinea in that country in 2008.

To Vavi, the alleged meeting in 2008 could be the genesis of all Gupta involvement in the political and economic affairs of the country.

The alleged Guptas involvement in the state affairs has in the past weeks been one of the bone of contentions in the country. The issue got to its peak when  former ANC MP Vytjie Mentor and the Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas revealed that they were offered important ministerial posts by the above named family.

This revelation by Jonas has led to individuals like Vavi to speak out in turns.

Vavi said the so-called business meeting between a Gupta brother and Duduzane Zuma during a visit to Equatorial Guinea – which was supposed to have placed focus on the alliance – has always worried him, and felt he too must speak out.

According to him, the only way to deal with the matter of state capture is to put to an end the Zuma regime and call for fresh elections.

“In my view the rot has gone too deep, too wide. The entire leadership is responsible. Those who lined up themselves in a press conference to scapegoat the public servants should take responsibility for the mess we find ourselves in and step aside,” says Vavi.

Though President Jacob Zuma is yet to make comments with regards to Vavi’s claim, he has announced that his relationship with the Gupta Family has been before his resumption as the country’s president. He added that his relationship with the family is purely out of politics.

However the office of the public Protector is set to investigate the alleged state capture by the Gupta family.
