Congratulations are in order as South African gay couple break record with the arrival of their triplets through a surrogate mom.
What makes the news even more amazing is the fact that the triplets have DNA from both men.
Thus, the South African gay couple broke a national and possibly a world record with the arrival of their bundles of joy.
The couple are reportedly one of the first gay couples in the world to father children with DNA from both parents.
The couple, Christo and Theo Menelaou; were Oscar Pistorius friends and neighbours. They reportedly met the surrogate at a neighbourhood meeting during the trial of the former Paralympian.
After agreeing to carry their baby, Christo and Theo Menelaou provided the sperm cells to fertilise two eggs from the surrogate.
Subsequently, doctors recommended that they terminate two of the pregnancies, after discovering that one egg had split.
However, Both the surrogate and the fathers dismissed the advice and went in search of a gynecologist who would work with them.
Eventually, the surrogate was delivered of three babies, including a set of identical twins.
Though Joshua; Zoe and Kate were delivered prematurely on July 2, the trio are now home with their parents. Both parents are overly grateful for the unexpected opportunity to become parents.
“When you’re gay, there’s always the thought that it just may not be possible to be a parent no matter how much you would love to be.
“It’s very hard to be accepted for adoption and we were told we would always come after heterosexual couples. And then we just never thought we’d ever find a person who would want to be surrogate to a gay couple”
Meanwhile, one of the triplets will soon be making a trip back to the hospital for a heart surgery.
