SkyTrax World Airport Awards, a London-based specialist research advisers to the air transport industry yesterday released the world’s top 100 airports for 2016.
The Skytrax awards usually based on votes by airline customers around the world after a 9-month survey period are “the most prestigious accolades for the airport industry, and a global benchmark of airport excellence widely known as the Passengers Choice Awards.”
Based on a rating of the world’s top 100 airports from the customer nominated 2016 World Airport Awards, South African airports dominates the list of the best airports in Africa.
Below is the ranking of the top ten best airports in Africa.
- Cape Town
- Durban King Shaka
- East London
- Port Elizabeth
Commenting, the Western Cape minister of economic opportunities, Alan Winde stated that the “Cape Town International Airport is consistently ranked as one of the best in the world.
As one of the first touch points visitors have when they reach our region, the airport team make sure tourists feel welcome here. These awards speak to the high standard of service the Western Cape is internationally known for,” added Winde.

Reporting this, CNN related that Singapore Changi Airport has clinched the World’s Best Airport title for the fourth year in a row. As reported, “many of those passing through the island city-state are clearly pleased with the airport’s innovations, such as two 24-hour movie theaters screening the latest blockbusters for free, a rooftop swimming pool and a butterfly garden.”
