Contrary to what the media personality told his fans, Exclusive Books has confirmed that Somizi’s book is far from being the highest-selling biography the retailer has ever sold.
Somizi Mhlongo’s memoir, Dominoes: Unbreakable Spirit has undoubtedly done well since it was released earlier this year. To celebrate the milestone, the star announced to fans that the book is now at the peak of its success.
“So we have just been told that my book is the highest-selling autobiography in the country ever at Exclusive Books. I wanna break the African record which was set by Harry Potter. Am I being too ambitious? No. I don’t think so because I have God and you,” he wrote on Instagram.
Notwithstanding, Exclusive Books refuted these claims, telling TshisaLive that the book was ‘below the numbers needed to break the record’ for the highest-selling biography ever sold by the retailer.
Thus, Exclusive Books general manager Ben Williams acknowledged the fact that Somizi’s book has garnered a massive fan base, but it has not gotten to the stage of breaking the record for highest-selling biography ever. Apparently, this title still belongs to Nelson Mandela’s bio Long Walk To Freedom.
“We never discuss sales with the media or even the authors so we did not notify him that his book was the highest-selling autobiography. His book did extremely well but the highest-selling autobiography was Nelson Mandela’s Long Walk to Freedom and it (Somizi’s book) was below the numbers needed to break that record,” Ben explained.
However, this does not change the fact that Somizi’s book was a “best-seller.” The book has continued to attract massive sales even after two and a half months of its release.
According to Exclusive books, Somizi’s book was the best-selling book across all genres for at least two weeks after its release and it’s still in the top three most popular titles sold by the company.
