Information from the Presidency has it that President Zuma has appointed a new Inspector-General of Intelligence.
According to the Presidency, the appointment was made in line with section 7 (1) of the Intelligence Services Oversight Act, 1994.
A statement the Presidency issued in this regard read thus:
“President Jacob Zuma has in terms of section 7 (1) of the Intelligence Services Oversight Act, 1994, appointed Dr Setlomamari Isaac Dintwe as the Inspector-General of Intelligence for a period of five years with effect from 15 March 2017.
…The said Act provides that the President shall appoint an Inspector-General of Intelligence nominated by the Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence and approved by the National Assembly by a resolution supported by at least two-thirds of its members.”

Setlomamari Isaac Dintw emerged the preferred candidate to fill the Inspector General of Intelligence post. After his nomination, he was approved for the job by Parliament on the 29th day of November 2016.

Before Setlomamari Isaac Dintw started teaching, he worked for the South African government as a crime fighter.
Dintw was once a police constable, then a detective, and a principal anti-corruption investigator. Records have it that he was an expert in forensic investigations. He even wrote a book on the subject.
3. What He’ll Be Doing?
Setlomamari Isaac Dintwe as the new Inspector-General of Intelligence, will be a snake that eats other snakes.
During Dintwe interview for the position, he said:
“I am competent for this office. I’m a cocktail, all in one. My career goes across all different spheres that are involved in anything which deals with the criminal justice system in this country.”
Afterwards, he asserted that the role of the inspector general of intelligence is to “become a snake that eats the other snakes.”
Meanwhile, President Zuma wished Dr Dintwe “all the best” in his new responsibilities. Also, it has widely been expressed that Dr Dintwe is fit for the position.
