The police in KwaZulu-Natal province on Saturday confirmed the death of one of its member, Sergeant Thabisile Penelope Zondi.
41-year-old Zondi was killed in KwaZulu-Natal, allegedly by her boyfriend, after an argument broke out between the duo in the early hours of Saturday.
Prior to her shocking and devastating death, she was stationed at Plessislaer Police Station.
KZN provincial police spokesperson colonel confirmed that Sergeant Thabisile Penelope Zondi was beaten to death by her boyfriend at her home in Scottville.
When the police arrived, Zondi’s lifeless body was found in a pool of blood. Also, there were strong indications that her boyfriend must have assaulted her with a pickaxe handle.
The suspect has been arrested and is expected to appear in court today. The police had earlier opened a case of murder at Alexandra Police Station.
In a related story, three men appeared briefly in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court on Monday for the murder of Cape Town police officer Constable Mziwonke Siwisa.
25-year-old Siwisa was shot and killed in Wallacedene, Kraaifontein, earlier this month on his way to work at the Sea Border Unit in Table Bay harbour. They also made away with his pistol.
The suspects Xolani Ndesi, Athi Mdluli and Jackson Lubabalo Mhobo were arrested in Bloekombos, Kraaifontein, last Wednesday in a joint operation by the Hawks and the police.
The case was postponed to December 21 and they were remanded in police custody.
The Police have continued to plead with South Africans to desist from police killings. Statistics showed that a good number of policemen were killed this year.
On November 22, a police officer Constable Amanda Ladlokova was shot dead while she and a colleague were attending to a domestic violence complaint in Philippi.
Three suspects, Thabo Nohashe, 23, Bronwen Bandile Qongqo, 26, and Ashwin Kennedy were arrested in connection with her murder.
