Western Cape Police and Education Department are now investigating the violent assault of a 15-year-old pupil at Luckhoff High School in Idas Valley, Stellenbosch.
The 15-year-old girl was attacked on November 24 by a classmate while other pupils watched on and filmed the assault.
The video sparked outrage when it emerged and circulated on social platforms. You can check it out below.
Confirming this incident, Jessica Shelver the spokesperson for the provincial education department related that the department is concerned about the aggressive nature of the attack.
She was quoted to have said: “We are concerned about the aggressive nature of the attack. No bullying is allowed in our schools and disciplinary action will be taken.”
BuzzSouthAfrica learnt that the victim would be offered counselling and support. That, however, didn’t stop the victim’s mum from demanding why her child’s classmates failed to help her child while she was being attacked.
“What kind of parent rears a child who instead of helping, stands by and films an attack like this?” She asked.
She related that she couldn’t even finish watching the video when she first encountered it.
“I flung my phone aside and one of my colleagues had to bring me sugar water to calm me down. I also wanted to report it at the school, but they weren’t interested in what I had to say,” she said.
Meanwhile, Western Cape MEC for education, Debbie Schafer reaffirmed via Twitter that the incident is being investigated and that counselling would be offered to the victim.
