The South African Police Service (SAPS) has informed BuzzSouthAfrica about the arrest of seven suspects selling mortar bombs.

SAPS said the suspects were dragged to the Tonga Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday after they were arrested earlier this week by members of the Hawks for illegal possession of explosives.

The suspects were each granted R1500 bail as the case was postponed to 31 July 2017 for further investigation.

Nonetheless, SAPS related that preliminary investigations suggested the military explosives originated from a neighbouring country.

“The group comprising five males and two females, namely; Monalo Khoza (31), Thulisile Nkomo (39), Sfiso Bonge Shabangu (32), Ronnei Lwazi Shabangu (49), Bheki Shabangu, Godfrey Sempira and Skhumbuzo Khoza (46).

“(They) were caught in the act of allegedly selling military explosives (mortar bombs) worth approximately R3.7 million in the Tonga area following a tip-off,” SAPS stated.

Meanwhile, SAPS said its members discovered a massive cocaine haul in Villiersdorp, Western Cape.

Proclaiming the discovery one of the biggest drug hauls in the country, SAPS narrated that its members in Villiersdorp seized 253 boxes of cocaine and arrested three suspects.

Already, the suspects aged 23, 27 and 42 have been charged with possession and dealing in drugs. They are expected to appear in court soon.

However, SAPS crime scene and forensic experts are still on the scene. It’s believed that the drugs are meant to be exported.

In Limpopo, SAPS Tracking Team launched a manhunt for a suspect wanted for murder and series of armed robberies he committed with his accomplices in Tzaneen and surrounding areas.

SAPS narrated that the deceased Calvin Matome Machete (45) from Ga-Ramotshinyadi village in the Bolobedu area, was riding home on his bicycle on 12 December 2016, when he was approached by five unknown people.

They claimed they were lost and asked for direction. While the deceased was directing them, one of the suspects fatally shot him, took his licenced firearm and they fled the scene.

“The deceased’s firearm was later recovered when a group of suspects were intercepted and arrested during an attempted cash-in-transit robbery in the Tzaneen Policing area.

“Sipho ‘Sphola’ Dlangamandla from Marimba Gardens in Vosloorus is requested to come forward to the Police to assist in the investigations in this matters.
