The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) says they can’t tolerate further racist incidents in the country and thus, have demanded for a minimum jail sentence of 10 years to crush what it described as the “resurgence of racial arrogance.”
To the Youth League, the increase of racist incidents like Ben Sasonof’s Facebook rants can no longer be tolerated because it shows a deeper underlying racial hatred.
In a media statement, ANCYL said: “these racist incidences can no longer be classified as ‘pockets of incidents’…they show a deeper underlying racial hatred that continues to exist in our society.
“The fact that the ownership structure of capital and the share in the economy of the country continues to be predominantly white, is what continues to feed the arrogance shown by racists.”
ANCYL upheld that the unfair ownership structure of the economy must be balanced to crush the sense of superiority among white South Africans.
The league disclosed that it would pressure the national government for legislation that would make racism a crime punishable by imprisonment.
” We can no longer file for charges that only result in fines. We should criminalize racism with a minimum jail sentence of 10 years.
“(ANCYL will) relentlessly dedicate its energy in ensuring that the ANC-led government passes laws that will pull the plug on the main sources of white privilege‚ white power and white arrogance.”
“The arrogance of racists is feed by the belief that their wealth coupled with white privilege they continue to receive makes them a superior race
” (We) holds a firm view that if we do not tamper with the current ownership structure of our economy, we will not undermine white supremacy,” asserted the league.
