Local radio veteran Bob Mabena has reportedly resigned from Kaya FM after more than a decade with the station.
The radio jock is set to leave the station at the end of April to start his new job at media company MSG Afrika Group.
Bob has been appointed as MSG Afrika Group’s group head of programming for their MSG Broadcasting subsidiary, effective 1 May 2017. A press statement released by MSG on Friday morning, revealed that Bob will present his breakfast show, 180 with Bob at Kaya FM until the end of the month.
Speaking on his new job, Bob said he’s full of anticipation for what’s to come. He said he can’t wait to apply his experience in broadcasting to achieve greater heights.
“I am looking forward to working with entrepreneurs who are committed to the radio medium and who understand its power in shaping the social and business landscape of our country. I have lived radio throughout my career and believe my new role will allow me to apply my extensive broadcast experience in the boardroom,” Bob said in the statement.
MSG Afrika Group is the license holder of four commercial radio stations including Power FM, Capricorn FM, upcoming station Rhythm FM and BEAT FM.
Bob’s new job entails overseeing the talent and content output in the four group stations, namely Limpopo’s Hottest Frequency, Capricorn FM, Gauteng based talk radio station, POWER 98.7 and also the soon to be launched Rhythm FM and Beat FM in the Eastern Cape and Free State, respectively. The radio veteran will also support individual station managers in growing commercial value for their clients.
Meanwhile, Kaya FM has not commented on the issue of radio veteran Bob Mabena leaving the station.
