Police Detective Unit At Botshabelo Records Third Death In A Week

The police detective unit in  Botshabelo, Mpumalanga province has entered another mourning mood following an incident that left one of its members dead. The deceased was found stabbed to death in the early hours of Sunday morning, Police said.

This is unfortunately the third death recorded in the unit in recent days though the other officers died in a car accident.

“At about 06:00… the Boithuso SAPS were alerted to a body of a male that was lying next to Kaizer Sebothelo Stadium in Botshabelo. It was discovered that it was that of a 36-years-old constable based at Botshabelo Detectives,” spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thandi Mbambo said.

Mbambo said the Constable Mosiuoa Putsoeli’s body was discovered with a stab wound to the neck while his service pistol and cellphone were not found on him.

“A Provincial Task Team led by Colonel Ketlamoreng Mafoyane from the Hawks in Bloemfontein was activated to lead the investigation. An appeal is made to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of suspect/s should please contact Colonel Mafoyane at 082 3739259,” she added.

The Free State Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thabethe Mpembe lamented that the death of the officer was unacceptable. He said that two other officers were killed earlier in the week when the car they were travelling in overturned in Winburg and now this.  He said the stabbed constable was the third member of the unit who died in a very short while.

“A loss of one police officer is a loss too many, hence we urge the community to assist with information that could expose and put behind bars those responsible for this barbaric act, and retrieve… the firearm that is going to be used to instill fear and threaten innocent community members,” said Mpembe.

The general public must give all necessary information to bring the perpetrators to justice and most importantly retrieve the firearm to avoid further illegal use of it.
