Information from the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has it that two police constables were dragged to the Upington Magistrates Court for gang-raping a 20-year-old Paballelo woman.
IPID arrested the police constables stationed at the Nakop Port of Entry and Kenhardy SAPS (South African Police Service) in Upington, Northern Cape.
As alleged, the 20-year-old victim from Rosedale in Upington was gang-raped by the police constables after she asked them for a lift to town.
“The victim…knows both police officers. When they returned from town, they went to the house of one of the Constables. It is alleged that one of the Constables left the house after which the victim was raped by the remaining Constable, who is the owner of the house where the rape occurred.
“During the rape, the other police officer, allegedly returned and also raped the victim.
“After the rape by the second Constable, the victim informed both suspects that she intended to report her ordeal to the police, the Constable in whose house the rape allegedly took place begged the victim not to report the matter.
“When she did not relent, the Constable drove the victim to Paballelo SAPS, where the matter was reported and, the victim was taken to the hospital where she was examined by a doctor,” IPID related.
IPID was later invited to take over the investigation of the case. That led to the arrest of the police constables who subsequently appeared before the Upington Magistrates Court.
Meanwhile, SAPS reported that a rapist was arrested after he fell asleep in his victim’s house. As reported, the police in Waterval arrested the 27-year-old man for raping a 25-year-old woman.
SAPS narrated that the victim was sleeping in the early hours of 8th April 2017 when the suspect broke into her home, threatened and raped her.
“After the ordeal, the suspect fell asleep (and) the victim escaped and called the Police. The Police reacted swiftly and found the suspect still asleep and arrested him,” SAPS related.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Waterval Magistrate’s Court today, 10 April 2017. There, he’ll face charges of housebreaking and rape.
