Opposition Party, DA has called for an urgent investigation into what it described as “water for votes scandal” by Pietermaritzburg ANC.
According to the DA, Pietermaritzburg ANC deliberately cut off the water supply so they could roll out water tankers to the people and pretend that they truly care for the people.
“The DA will write to the Public Protector and to the IEC to request an investigation into allegations that the Pietermaritzburg ANC deliberately cut off the water supply so they could roll out water tankers to make it appear as though they are a responsive government which delivers services.
“This abusive conduct manipulates the most vulnerable people in South Africa,” DA’s provincial leader in KwaZulu-Natal – Zwakele Mncwango – stated.
“This is also flagrant abuse of the constitutionally guaranteed right to access to water and we contend that this amounts to a gross abuse of state resources.
This is just the latest example of how the ANC has changed. The ANC is more interested in capturing state resources than looking after vulnerable communities.
It is clear that the ANC would rather further inconvenience the poor, who are riddled with joblessness, rising food prices and the worst recorded drought in over a century, by depriving them of water before swooping in to ‘save the day’,” Mncwango added.
The provincial leader pointed out that the ANC has again been exposed as he reiterated that the organization governs as though black lives do not matter.
“On August 3, South Africans have a chance to vote for change by voting for a party that will ensure proper service delivery and ensure the protection of the poor and vulnerable. This is the change that will move South Africa forward again,” Mncwango asserted.
Meanwhile, President Jacob Zuma cautioned KwaZulu-Natal ANC manifesto launch gathering on Sunday against wasting votes by voting for another party.
“If you vote for them (other parties) you are throwing away your vote, you are not investing it…No one else is going to win the elections but the ANC.
If you vote for any other party, what will you be voting for? They are not in government and they will never be so there is nothing that they will do for you,” said Mr President.
