Local rapper Kwesta’s traditional wedding with his long-time partner Yolanda Mvelase was held in Ethekwini on Saturday.
The Ngud rapper Kwesta, real name Senzo Mfundo Vilakazi, had a lavish traditional wedding (Umembeso) over the weekend and we’ve been getting beautiful pictures from the event.
The colourful wedding which took place in Westville, KwaZulu-Natal saw the bride radiating African beauty in vibrant African prints. She had a total of two wardrobe changes, consisting of colourful and vibrant African prints.
The couple already have a baby girl named Khai.
As part of a Zulu tradition held during lobola negotiations, guests watched as Kwesta handed over gifts to his bride’s family. This is known as Umembeso in Zulu tradition.
Kwesta’s traditional wedding comes after the rapper confirmed his engagement to the mother of his child and long-time partner on the Metro FM Awards black carpet earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Kwesta’s fans rallied around the rapper when he ended up with no award at the Metro FM Awards. Most of his fans including fellow artists thought that Kwesta’s Ngud would take the award for Song of the Year. Instead, the award went to Nasty c for Hell Naw.
Ngud was clearly one of the most celebrated songs in 2016.
Nevertheless, the rapper took pride in his performance at the South by Southwest (SXSW) music and lifestyle festival in Austin, Texas. The event which takes place annually in March is a combination of film, media, music festivals and conferences.
Kwesta was very excited about the opportunity to hoist the SA flag high for the world to see. The rapper joins the likes of K.O and Jesse Clegg who have performed at the festival in the past.
