Northern Cape Policemen Caged For Raping Teenagers


Information from the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has it that two Northern Cape Policemen have been caged for raping teenagers.

From our gatherings, the Postmasburg Regional Court, in the Northern Cape ordered the caging of a 42-year-old Warrant officer Edgar Nero and 21-year-old Constable Thuto Shupping Motoa for the crime.

While the Northern Cape Policemen were sentenced to 5 years imprisonment, they were also, suspended for 5 years for raping two teenagers aged 16 and 14 years old.

As learnt, the rape case against the Northern Cape Policemen was reported at Postmasburg police station on 20th November 2014 and subsequently transferred to IPID for investigation.

Confirming this, IPID specified that the victims were 14 and 16 years old at the time of the incident.

“They were raped by two unknown policemen who were driving a marked double-cab police van.

“The two victims were interviewed by IPID investigating officer (and) it was established through the interview that there were two other occupants in the police van at the time they were picked up by the two suspects,” IPID related.

The Investigative Directorate said the matter was thoroughly investigated and led to the arrest of the accused policemen who later appeared in court where they faced charged of rape.

“On 24 February 2017, the accused were sentenced to five (5) years imprisonment and suspended for five (5) years in service. They were declared unfit to possess fire arms, (and) their names were added to the National Register for sex offenders,” stated IPID.

Dasco Dibane

His name is Dasco Dibane and, the Galeshewe FCS Unit believes he can assist the solving of a rape and assault with grievous bodily harm case.

According to SAPS, “it is alleged that on the 24 February 2017 at about 19:00, the victim (20) was walking alone at John Daka on her way to her friend’s house.

“She was approached by a man armed with a knife. He threatened her with a knife and force her to walk with him to his place. On arrival at his place, he assaulted the victim and allegedly raped her,” SAPS narrated.
