Cassper Nyovest (Refiloe Maele Phoolo) is a South African Rap & Hip-Hop recording artist and producer.
Cassper was born on the 16th of December 1990, in Montshiwa, Mafikeng, North West, South Africa. His musical journey began at the age of 12; when he started rapping.
At the age of 14, he was a member of a group called Childhood Gangsters (CHG). When CHG didn’t work out, he eventually joined an eight-member group by the name ‘Slow Motion’.
At the age of 16, Cassper dropped out of school and moved to Johannesburg to focus on his music. A couple of months after his move to Johannesburg, he was signed by Mostwako Label. Unfortunately after being with the label for two years, he still had no release.
HHP was a rapper signed under the Motswako label; he spotted Cassper delivering an impressive performance at a show and decided to feature him on one of his tracks (Wamo Tseba Mtho) in his album (Dumela). The collaboration saw Cassper going on various tours with HHP, giving him the much needed exposure he needed as an artist.
Gusheshe and Doc Shebeleza were the two first singles released under Cassper Nyovest’s debut album “Tsholofelo”. Both songs were well received across South Africa, gaining major plays on various stations and seeing him at the top of numerous music charts.
Tsholofelo is Cassper’s debut album. It was released on the 18th of July 2014 and was number 1 on the iTunes South African album chart for two consecutive months. Tsholofelo is Cassper’s sister’s name, which means “Hope”.
Refiloe is Cassper’s second studio album; it was released on the 31st of October 2015. Refiloe is Cassper’s official first name, which means “we have been given”.
