Boitumelo Thulo is a South African actress, model and TV personality known mostly to the public as Boity.
Boity gained national fame and international recognition as a presenter for the Media Career Guide – an educational programme one SABC 1, a host for e.tv’s Club 808 and most notably as Mpho Bogatsu on Mzansi Magic’s TV show – Rockville.
She has been active on South Africa’s entertainment scene since 2010 and is currently one f the most recognizable names in South Africa’s show business.
Boity Thulo was born on the 28th of April, 1990 in Potchefstroom in North West Province of South Africa. This puts Boity’s current age at 26.
Boity was raised by her grandmother in Potchefstroom where she attended primary school as well as Potchefstroom High School for Girls.
She was also a student of Monash University in Melbourne, Australia majoring in Psychology and Criminology.
She first became involved with the entertainment industry when she appeared in a friend’s music video in 2008. She later appeared in a television advert for Wimpy which was the starting point of her fame.
In 2010, she guest starred on the e.tv drama ‘4play: Sex Tips For Girls’ as Lindi.
However, it was in 2011 her career-making gig came around when Boity began presenting for The Media Career Guide.
In 2012, Boity was also the co-host to a short lived interactive multi platform user generated show on SABC 1 – Zoned, alongside Mpumi Mbethe.
The show was not renewed for a second season.
However, she later returned to SABC 1 as a guest judge on their dance shows – Turn It Out: Street Battle and their weekly educational show – Crib Notes.
She later had a guest arc on iNkaba, a telenovela on Mzansi Magic.
It was in June 2013 that Boity joined the cast of Mzansi Magic new TV series – Rockville. Other actors on the show include Minnie Dlamini, Mbali Mlotshwa, Connie Ferguson and Shona Ferguson.
In 2013 as well, Boity appeared on Taxi Ride, a sitcom on Mzansi Magic.
In 2014, she appeared as herself on the Comedy Central Roast of Kenny Kunene.
Also in 2014, she participated in ‘Rolling With: Celeb Edition’, a documentary reality series on e.tv.
Still in July 2014, Boity Thulo became a contestant on the seventh season of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ where she was partnered Ryan Hammond, the professional dancer.
Other celebrity contestants of that season include: Janine Davies, John Mametsa, Khanyi Mbau, Ashish Gangapersad, Leandie du Randt and Donovan Goliath.
Boity has had many appearances on many other shows since then including Ses’ Top La, a sitcom on SABC 1; the second season of Reality Check; My perfect Family, a sitcom on SABC 1; as a contestant on ‘I Love South Africa’ and as a presenter at the South African Music Awards.
In 2015, Boity became the new host of Cub 808 alongside Cyprian Ndlovu on e.tv.
She is set to star in South African feature film – Golden Highway. The movie will also star Thando Thabethe, Dineo Moeketsi, Thapelo Mokoena and Robert Whitehead.
Boity is currently a goodwill ambassador for Thusa A Girl Child.
Thusa A Girl Child is an organization that is dedicated to empowering young girls who grow up in poverty and extreme conditions.
Boity was one of thirty six celebrities who posed naked for the Magazine – Marie Claire – to help raise awareness for The Lunchbox Fund.
The Lunchbox fund is a nonprofit organization that aims to provide daily meals for orphans and vulnerable children in improvised areas of South Africa.
Boity Thulo was in a relationship with Cassper Nyovest, the noted South African rapper.
The couple was together for over a year before splitting in 2016. The break up was amicable as both parties decided to focus on their careers.
Before Cassper, Boity was in relationship with Greg Borowsky.
However, that relationship ended when Greg left South Africa for New York city.
On the issue, Boity is quoted saying, “Greg is one of my closest friends and him going to New York was the greatest thing to happen to him. I am very proud of him.”
