Neil Fingleton, the very tall actor who played the role of the giant Mag the Mighty in award-winning drama series Game of Thrones has died.
Also known as Britain’s tallest man, the 7-foot 7-inch actor died as a result of heart failure at the age of 36.
According to the Tall Persons Club, Fingleton died on Saturday.
Neil Fingleton, from Durham, was a basketball player in the US before he ventured into acting. In addition to Game of Thrones, he also worked on 417 Ronin, X-Men: First Class and Dr Who, in which he played the Fisher King monster.
His role in the “Games of Thrones” as the fearsome Mag cannot be easily forgotten. Mag was a giant on the northern side of the great ice wall that was guarded by Lord Commander Jon Snow and the black-clad men of the Night’s Watch.
Fingleton made the decision to go into acting following his unavoidable retirement from basketball due to injury. Speaking on that decision, Fingleton said; “There are tens of millions of people in this country, and I’m the tallest, which is a very special thing.
“So why not use it to my advantage and be recognised, not just for being tall but for being a talented actor.”
His title as Britain’s tallest man was confirmed in 2007 when Fingleton was recognised by Guinness World Records as the tallest man in the UK.
Neil Fingleton was born in northeast England in 1980. He said he was always standing out from the crowd wherever he went. In 2006, the tall man told the Guinness records website; “I have always been taller than everyone since I can remember.”
He played college basketball in the United States where had a short professional career in the US and Europe before turning to acting.
