Allegedly shot in an attempted hijacking last night, media strategist Gordon Patterson has been reported dead.
Though the circumstances surrounding his death is still a bit shady, his colleagues at Omnicom‚ where he was business director confirmed the news.
Sandra Gordon confirmed the tragic news saying:
“Gordon was a forthright, kind and selfless person. He mentored and cared about young media people. Encouraging and motivating in a gentle and wise way.
He kept his friends close and enjoyed a wide circle of close colleagues. His contribution to the media sector is as profound as his love of deep sea diving and life in general.
“He served on numerous industry bodies, volunteering his time, energy and counsel. At all times a professional media man who will never be forgotten.”
Police officials are yet to confirm what led to his death. However, unvalidated reports said Patterson was shot in his own driveway in a hijacking attempt.
Gordon Patterson was a dedicated global media and marketing professional. He contributed immensely to the advertising and media industry in South Africa where he served for more than 25 years.
Prior to his death, he was on the board of the Audit Bureau of Circulation‚ as well as the vice-chairman of Advertising Media Association of South Africa.
He founded media and advertising SMV Group in South Africa in April 2000.
One of his remarkable career achievements was a former chairman of the Media Directors Circle and as a founding director of the AMF in South Africa‚ where he was still a director at the time of his death.
