Requirements for admission into the Stellenbosch differ depending on the degree that the applicant is applying for. The school’s requirements for the first degree vary from that of the second degree.

For applicants from the South African school system:
You must have obtained a National Senior Certificate (NSC) as certified by Umalusi with admission to Bachelor’s degree studies. This means that you must obtain a mark of at least 50% in each of four school subjects from the list of university admission subjects:

- A minimum TOEFL score of 550 for the paper-based assessment, or 213 for the computer-based assessment, or an IELTS score of 6.5.
- Letters of recommendation (Though not compulsory). However, Doctoral candidates must submit a draft research proposal (or an extensive statement of intent).
- There are no special requirements for international students that are home-schooled, as admission is based on academic performance, irrespective of whether you are home-schooled or not.
Note:
- Applications for undergraduate MBChB and Physiotherapy programmes are open to international students with permanent residency only.
- Admission is not automatically deferred to the next intake.
- International students without residency are unfortunately not eligible to apply to the university.

2. The second requirement is the National Benchmark Tests (NBTs). Both South African and international prospective undergraduates must write their NBTs. It is a basic requirement.
