BuzzSouthAfrica has been informed that a primary school lesbian teacher will be dragged to the Upington Magistrate’s Court today for sexually assaulting a minor girl.
From our gathering, the 28-year-old teacher was arrested on Friday. Confirming her arrest, police spokesperson Captain Jacques September disclosed that the teacher is facing charges of rape, molestation, indecent sexual assault and serious assault of a minor.
A statement issued by Geoffrey van der Merwe of the Northern Cape department announced an immediate suspension of the Laerskool Oranje-noord teacher
“The department and the teaching fraternity are shocked and saddened by the incident. Teachers are secondary caregivers to our children and for that reason we condemn these actions in the strongest terms,” Van der Merwe stated.
With that, he charged that such incidents wouldn’t be tolerated and urged other pupils who have been molested by their teachers to come forward.
Meanwhile, Eyewitness News reported another incident where a mother alleged that a teacher has been sexually harassing her daughter.
According to the report, the Soweto mother narrated how her 14-year-old daughter is being sexually harassed by a 47-year-old teacher at a high school in Lenasia south.
Specifying that the teacher doesn’t teach her child, the woman alleged that he has been making sexual advances on the girl since 2016.
Divulging that her child is now scared of going to school, the Soweto woman related that the girl once returned from school crying. That was after the teacher interrupted an ongoing lesson by another teacher demanding to see the 14-year-old girl in another room.
“When they were alone in this other office, he asked her whether she’s still a virgin and continued to say virgins are what he wants,” said the mum.
She added that before that, the teacher severally bought her daughter lunch and demanded that she visit him at home.
She said: “he would sometimes buy her food. I don’t know why. He would always tell her to bunk school and visit him at his house, but she didn’t do this, so he demanded that she pay him by having sex with him.”
Afterwards, the woman wailed that her daughter is being maltreated by other teachers for reporting the sexual advances of their colleague.
Claiming that her child’s life is in danger because she approached the school to report the teacher, the woman said:
“This man is still working at the school, his life is going on as normal and other teachers know about this and are also now ill-treating my child.
On 10th February she was waiting for the transport that takes her to and from school when someone in another kombi arrived and hit her with a brick on the head.”
Reacting to the allegations, Oupa Bodibe from Gauteng Department of Education disclosed that the department is working towards handing the teacher a precautionary suspension while the allegations are being investigated.
“Gauteng Department of Education can confirm that it is investigating a case of sexual harassment against an educator,” said Bodibe.
