Singer, songwriter and actress Janet Jackson’s divorce from her third husband Wissam Al Mana after a few months of welcoming their first child is currently hogging the headlines.
Fans were shocked as news that the couple called it quits after five years of marriage made leaked over the weekend. The split comes three months after the couple welcomed their first child together, a baby boy named Eissa Al Mana. Eissa was born on 3 January 2017. Consequently, the baby boy will reportedly stay with his mother who is based in London.
Reports claim that Janet and her husband recently agreed that things weren’t working out and decided to pull the plug on their marriage.
Notwithstanding, what got tongues wagging wasn’t the divorce itself, it was the timing.
Notably, though they made it public a year after, Jackson, 50, married Qatari billionaire Wissam Al Mana, 42 in 2012. This follows much deliberation over whether to have a lavish wedding.
Eventually, Jackson accepted Al Mana’s preference for a simple and private ceremony after which they continued living a low key and quiet life.
Meanwhile, as fans are trying to come to terms with the split, speculation about how the couple’s enormous wealth may be divided has also become a thing.
While Jackson is estimated to have a personal fortune of around $US 175 million from her 30-year career as one of the biggest names in pop music, her Qatari business magnate hubby, Al Mana is worth a fortune about four times more than Jackson’s. This got many wondering if the pair had a prenuptial agreement.
According to TMZ, the pair most likely had a prenup, and considering that such agreements are usually structured so that the longer the marriage, the bigger the settlement, Jackson might be rolling in more cash that she was.
“Prenups typically have 5 and 10 year marks, which trigger more money in the pot to be divided,” says TMZ.
In order words, the fact that Jackson made it to the fifth year in the marriage could, under common prenup terms, be the basis for her to walk away from the marriage with a very fat cheque.
On a lighter mood, social is currently having a field day with the news.
