Jasper van der Westhuizen Wiese is the older brother of Jacobus Hermanus Wiese, professionally known as Cobus Wiese. The English Premiership rugby player is two years older than his brother, Jacobus, who was born on June 2nd, 1997. While Jasper makes a name for himself in England’s Premiership Rugby as a Leicester Tigers player, Cobus is a well-known South African rugby union player for the Sale Sharks.

Interestingly, Jasper and Cobus wanted to follow in their parent’s footsteps, working as farmers. They, however, developed a huge passion for rugby while in high school, and that eventually influenced their career choices. Cobus Wiese was born to parents who work as farmers. He is the last child of his parents and was raised alongside his two older brothers on a farm in Upington, South Africa.

The Wiese siblings dreamed of becoming farmers, but eventually, it was Cobus’ eldest brother who maintained the same career path as their parents. While attending Hoerskool Upington, Cobus and Jasper Wiese took to rugby as high school players. Upon high school completion, Jasper wanted to return to farming and study agriculture.

He, however, got an offer to play for the Central University of Technology in the Varsity Shield tournament. Cobus Wiese, on the other hand, has never looked back since following in his older brother’s footsteps.

Cobus Wiese is widely known for having a successful career as a rugby player. At a young age, he played as a flanker or lock for several rugby teams and international teams as well. He began his youth career at the age of sixteen in 2013 and played for Griquas Country District for two years. Throughout his senior career, Jacobus has been associated with the Stormers, Western Province, and Sale Sharks.

He also made appearances for South Africa Schools and South African under-20. He was named in Western Province’s final squad that competed at the World Rugby Under 20 Championship in Manchester, England, in 2016. After making his Super Rugby debut with the Stormers in the next year, Jasper Wiese’s brother joined the Premiership Rugby team, Sale Shark, in 2020 before the 2020/2021 season.
