Joburg mayor Mashaba is ready to take actions against the ANC in Johannesburg, saying he’s had enough of the party’s interference in his administrative activities.
Mashaba, who has been severally tackled by the ANC said he’s had enough as the ANC yet again, “connived” with the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) to disrupt his council meeting which turned bloody.
The executive mayor believed the ANC interruption of a meeting he was chairing wouldn’t have turned violent if the JMPD had provided adequate security.
Instead, the JMPD chief Brigadier Zwelibanzi Nyanda had to work with the ANC thugs to make the progamme, said Mayor Mashaba.
Hence, in retaliation, the mayor pushed for the termination of Nyanda’s appointment saying he is unfit to provide adequate security for the city.

Mashaba’s decision to punish the JMPD boss further deepened the rift between the mayor and the police department following past months report when a group of demonstrators gained access to council chambers and disrupted a council meeting.
In last night’s skirmishes, in a scheduled Integrated Development Plan (IDP) summit held at Midrand High north of Johannesburg, a DA councillor had to be hospitalized after he was hit on the head with a brick, while an EFF member bled seriously after he suffered a deep cut on his head
Eyewitnesses and reports, said the ANC group of ten councilors led by Matshidiso Mfikoe orchestrated the violent attack. The ANC councillors allegedly attended the summit only to ensure that the meeting never ended well.
The mayor reiterated that Nyanda has yet again failed to secure council premises and the ANC on the other hand will not go scot-free for its recent actions.
“With him [Brigadier Nyanda] in charge, there has been lack of proper security and security protocol breached. The mayor is resolute in removing him to ensure that the JMPD does its work,” said mayoral spokesperson Tony Taverna-Turisan.
He further noted while speaking to Radio 702 this morning that the ANC disruptions were clear indications that the party is yet to come to terms with the fact that they have lost hold of the city.
He said the interruption of IPD meetings showed the ANC is still determined to frustrate his service delivery to residents. He had scathing words for both ANC Councillors, as well as Nyanda for allegedly reneging on his core mandate of providing security.
Meanwhile, the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) Regional Task Team in the Greater Johannesburg Region responded to Mshaba’s accusation saying the mayor was responsible for the blood spills.
The league in a statement on Wednesday, condemned the brawl but accused the DA leadership in Johannesburg as being “racist and uncaring” for the African majority in the City of Johannesburg.
“Mayor Mashaba was in attendance of the IDP and idly stood by while his goons viciously carried out an attack on our people. Chairs and bottled water were thrown at members of the community as they sought accountability from the City’s leadership,
“The ANC is the majority party in the Johannesburg Metro Council and that means people have faith in the movement, public participation can never be relegated to a few who bought political power because it belongs to the people,” said the ANCYL adding that it will take JMPD officers to task for taking sides and not protecting residents.
