Gugu’s wife Letshego Zulu has completed a nine-day mountain bike challenge in tribute to her late Motorsport champion husband.
Letshego who embarked on the 900km mountain bike challenge a week ago, completed it just days before Gugu’s father died after a long battle with cancer.
It was a challenge which Letshego said that she and Gugu planned to embark on together. Notwithstanding, she decided to do it in his honour since her husband is no longer alive. Thus, she rode with him in her heart alongside his mountain bike family. The race kicked off in Johannesburg and ended in Scottburgh, KZN.
“GZ (Gugz) and I had planned on ticking off our adventure to-do list together,” she said.
Notably, the couple led a very adventurous life which was terminated by the sudden death of Gugu last year.
Thus, his wife decided to keep her husband’s legacy alive and she had the support of his mountain bike family with her all the way.
“It turned out to be a race that brought his mtb brothers and sisters together and we rode with him in our hearts. What an incredible week this was,” she added.
Sadly, after Gugu’s wife Letshego completed the challenge, tragedy struck the Zulu family again on Monday. Less than a year after Gugu’s death in July last year, his father, Peter died after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Apparently, the passing of Gugu took its toll on his father and just when everyone thought he was getting better, he gave up. Gugu’s father passed on at Unitas Hospital in Pretoria. He was 66 years old. His death occurred a few months after the family buried a cousin and barely a year after the death of his son Gugu.
Gugu died while trying to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. He was one of a 42-member Trek4Mandela charity initiative team that climbed the Mount.
