Zuma’s Daughter, Gugu Zuma-Ncube Slams Critics Over Shady Deal Allegation

Executive producer of SABC 1’s show Uzalo, who doubles as president Zuma’s daughter, Gugu Zuma-Ncube, has hit back at critics. Zuma-Ncube took on her opponents after a report surmised that her company had a shady renewal of her show.

Report had it that Uzalo was barred from further commission by a six-member review committee in April 2015. But SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng overruled his staff, weighed in and changed the committee’s recommendation.

However, BuzzSouthAfrica learnt that the company that produces Uzalo, Stained Glass Productions, has signed a new three-year contract with the SABC, thereby raising public outcry.

The value of the contract is said to be R167 million. Kobedi “Pepsi” Pokane, who is also a co-owner of the production company, disclosed that the amount was in line with what the SABC generally pays production companies for shows.

Gugu Zuma-Ncube Had No Shady Deal With SABC

He refuted claims that the company had a shady deal with SABC because they never persuaded Motsoeneng to intervene.

Pokane rather maintained that Motsoeneng came to their aid because Uzalo is a popular and lucrative show that puts large amounts of money into SABC’s purse.

Speaking further, he expressed dismay that president Jacob Zuma’s daughter is unnecessarily ill-treated because of her family background.

In a Twitter rant introduced with the words “very interesting Sunday Times #Uzalo article & by interesting I do mean bullshit”, Zuma-Ncube said she feels bad because she is being persecuted with lies.

She however expressed joy that her show has always topped the chart in South Africa. She also boasted of having hired more than 100 people, dishing out opportunities to actors and leading the charge of decentralizing SA TV industry.

Zuma-Ncube’s show airs three times a week on SABC1.

This is not the first time Uzalo funding has caused controversy. In 2015, the eThekwini municipality sponsored Stained Glass Productions with R5-million- which incurred the wrath of opposition groups.

Gugulethu Zuma-Ncube is Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma’s daughter. She got married to one son of a Zimbabwean politician and President of MDC party, Welshman Ncube.
