Lundi was reportedly in and out of the hospital since December last year. He first got admitted to hospital in December and was discharged at the beginning of the year. Apparently, his health took a downturn as he was readmitted once again about a week ago. Earlier this week, it was announced that he had liver complications and was later transferred to ICU where he was put on life support.

According to a press statement released by his management, Lundi died at 12:40 on Friday, 27 January at Edenvale Hospital.

“Lundi put up a gallant fight against his illness, but God’s will prevailed. We ask that his fans, supporters and followers join us in celebrating his life. We will always remember him for how he brightened up our days with his God-given talent. Rest in peace Lundi,” Anele Hlazo, his manager and family spokesman, said.

The Ndixolele hitmaker fought a good battle but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. Earlier this week, Lundi’s family called on South Africans to unite in prayer to help him through his difficult times.

A statement from the singer’s family read;

“We ask his fans, supporters, followers, well-wishers and the general public to keep praying for his healing as his condition remains worryingly critical. As believers, we know that through God’s intervention he will overcome these illnesses.”

Subsequently, EFF leader Julius Malema launched a campaign for gospel star Lundi Tyamara on his social media platform pleading to fans to keep Lundi in their prayers.
