Yep, he’s a Free State EFF Councillor candidate for the upcoming local government elections. But his idea of ‘fighting for economic freedom’ is probably – thievery.
Reports have it that a Free State EFF Councillor candidate for the August 3 election, was arrested after he was caught in possession of skins and heads belonging to stolen livestock.
Confirming this, police spokesperson Wendy Nkabi related that the EFF Councillor candidate, Pastor Jacobus Nchefu was arrested with other four suspects during a routine patrol at Bohlokong in Petrusburg in the Free State.
As it happened, the police conducting the routine patrol stopped their car and discovered that they were in possession of four sheep skins and heads.
Nkabi said; “they stopped and searched the vehicle…upon searching they found four sheep skins in the boot of the suspect’s vehicle. It is alleged that the four sheep were slaughtered and kept in a church at Bohlokong location.”
BuzzSouthAfrica learnt that the five suspects appeared in court and that their case was postponed to June 17 for a formal bail application.
Commenting, EFF’s provincial chairperson, Kgotso Morapela disclosed that the party is aware of the incident, but is waiting for court proceedings in order to make a decision on the issue.
“We are not going to hesitate to take strong actions (against) any individual who is on the wrong side of the law,” Morapela promised.
Anyway, EFF is not the only party with candidate(s) for the upcoming local government elections linked to crimes.
ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe recently confirmed that there are 28 candidates on the party’s local government elections list who either have criminal records or are facing serious charges.
Mantashe said ANC will do nothing but wait for the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to screen the list and make the final decision.
