Johnny Dladla has been appointed as the acting group Chief Executive Officer of South African electricity public utility Eskom.
The appointment was announced by the public utility on Thursday and is said to be with immediate effect.
“The Eskom Board wishes to announce the appointment of Mr. Johnny Dladla as Acting Group Chief Executive with immediate effect.
This follows intense consultations between the Minister and Eskom Board to arrive at a prudent choice. Both parties are of the strong belief that Dladla’s experience and expertise will stabilize Eskom in the short-term,” Eskom said.
The appointment has also been welcomed by Minister of Public Enterprises Lynne Brown. She expressed confidence that it would bring further stability to Eskom and its executive team.
Minister Brown, however, urged Eskom board to finalize the appointment of a permanent Group Chief Executive to ensure the long-term stability to the utility.
Dladla’s appointment follows the exit of former Eskom boss Brian Molefe who was dismissed last month after Minister Lynne Brown instructed the board to rescind his controversial reappointment.
Eskom executive Matshela Koko previously replaced Molefe as the acting chief executive. However, after it emerged that his stepdaughter’s company had benefited from lucrative Eskom contracts, he was suspended.
