EFF Activist’s Face Designed With Broken Bottle

Recently, the presence of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader in some parts of the country had been vehemently greeted with violence and hostility.

Few other times, some of his supporters were either attacked or shot by perceived political rivals. Last week, an EFF supporter, Elizabeth Chosi was shot in the leg while the party was handing out pamphlets and campaigning in Polokwane municipality.

EFF Limpopo secretary Joe Buthane alleged that the opposition party supporter was shot in the leg by someone in an African National Congress (ANC) Tshirt.

Speaking the next day, Buthane said, “while they were sharing the pamphlets in a taxi rank in Polokwane municipality, a man in an ANC T-shirt started assaulting some of EFF members‚ and when they answered he took out a gun and shot a lady in the leg”.

The incidence was confirmed by Limpopo police Col Ronel Otto.

Sometime in May also, an EFF marshal Senzo Thwala was allegedly shot in the leg in  Mpumalanga when he tried to prevent a man donning an ANC Tshirt from entering the KaMaqhekeza stadium in KaMaqhekeza.

EFF Activist Stabbed

Last Friday, some unidentified group struck again, stabbing a prominent member of the opposition party, Phumelele Khanye on her face.

It all began when Khanye learnt that a group of people had cordoned off the road with burning tyres in protest against Malema’s visit to Intabazwe kasi, near Harrismith that day.

When she accosted them, she was immediately attacked with a broken beer bottle, which the culprit used on her face before running away.

The 34-year-old EFF activist recounted her ordeal: “They asked me why we had brought Malema to our kasi and said they did not want to see him. When one of them attacked me with a broken beer bottle the others were singing Boso ke mang.

Some of them said they were teaching me a lesson I would never forget. I thought I could speak to them but now I have realised that I committed a terrible mistake.

The boy who stabbed me on the cheek was very aggressive. I was very scared and thought I was going to die right there.”

She added that the boy ran away with his friends after stabbing her. According to the EFF activist, she was later rushed to hospital for treatment by fellow party members.

Meanwhile, police spokesman Sergeant Christopher Mophiring has confirmed the incidence. He said the police have opened a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and are busy with the investigation.

Free State EFF spokeswoman Mandisa Mageseni also said they were aware of the matter when alerted.

Last week, EFF spokesperson Ndlozi made no bones about incessant attacks on EFF members ahead of the August 3 municipal elections.

Ndlozi, who said a mouthful also requested IEC to trim the wings of violent political parties in the country, so that the forthcoming elections won’t be ruined.
