Durban Officers Slay 3 Cash-in-transit Robbers During Shootout


BuzzSouthAfrica has been informed that Durban officers shot and killed 3 cash-in transit robbers who engaged them in a shootout on the M13 near the Stapleton/New Germany Road intersection.

As informed, the suspects were fleeing when a shootout ensued between them and the Durban officers. Apart from the 3 that died, one suspect was seriously injured while another fled on foot.

The Police Airwing helicopter has already been dispatched to search for him as the SAPS K9 units hunt for the man in the bushes nearby the road.

Crime fighters have to block the road in order to conduct an effective search for the suspect.

It is said that the cash-in-transit robbers are part of a gang that perpetrated a cash-in-transit robbery in Hillcrest.

Two days ago, a robber was killed while he was attempting to rob a Western Cape official and his team in Nyanga on the Cape Flats.

We reported that the official, Albert Fritz and his team were attending an event when robbers attacked them. One was killed and another, seriously wounded.

Meanwhile, Walmer detectives in Port Elizabeth arrested an 82-year-old woman for murder.

SAPS related the incident that warranted the arrest thus:

“It is alleged that at about 04:00 this morning (Sunday) the woman woke up her neighbours in Elijah Street Walmer location and reported that she set some of the shacks alight (3 in total).

“One body was found in one of the shacks. The identity of the deceased person is not yet known. The reason for setting the shacks on fire is yet to be established. The fire brigade was on the scene and extinguished the fires.”

SAPS added that the old woman was arrested for murder and will appear in court soon.
