If you thought Dr Malinga was kidding when he said he is going to win the Song of the Year Award, then you are in for a big surprise.
The veteran musician was not happy with the way things turned out on the Song of the Year Category at the Metro FM Awards last month. Thus he decided to take the bull by the horn.
Consequently, he organised his own award ceremony where he awarded himself the coveted prize. Malinga threw a ceremony at his company Lingas Entertainment on Thursday.
At the event, Malinga gave out several awards to employees at the company. However, he was the night’s big winner as he walked away with a customised trophy for Song of the Year.
Well, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with giving yourself a pat on the back after working so hard.
Losing out on song of the year at the Metro FM Awards last month wasn’t easy for Dr Malinga who had sworn to take the award home.
The musician was nominated in the Song of the Year category for his hit song Akulaleli, alongside Wololo, Mthande, Ndud’, Amazulu, Umsindo, Ska Bhora Moreki, Lion of Judah and Imali.
However, Nasty C’s Hell Naw clinched the award. A lot of people including Dr Malinga objected, saying Hell Naw did not deserve the award with reference to the other songs it was up against. In fact, rumours have been making rounds since the awards that Mabala Noise boss Reggie Nkabinde may have manipulated the votes by buying airtime for people to vote for artists signed under his label.
As a result, an enraged Malinga resorted to shading Nasty C for taking an award that supposedly belongs to another. He called the young rapper many names including and a pawn shop which he said means he keeps things that do not belong to him.
