Barely a year after joining the Durban-based radio station‚ media personality and entrepreneur DJ Sbu has confirmed that he will be leaving Vuma FM.
Sbu who joined Vuma in June as part of a radio venture that saw him broadcast simultaneously on Vuma FM and Rise FM, has decided it’s time to broaden his horizon. Besides, it seems his brand is taking a different direction from the station.
As a result, Vuma FM station manager Pearl Sokhulu said on Friday that the decision to end the relationship was mutual.

“We felt like the station and Sbu were growing in different directions and that we needed to make a change. It was a mutual decision. We are grateful to have had Sbu on our station. He has been an incredible asset‚” Pearl said.
Apparently, Sbu is driven by his passion to inspire young people. Unfortunately, Vuma doesn’t provide such platform, instead, the station has an older audience. This was what inspired his departure from the station but he still holds at great esteem, the time he spent with the station.
“I feel great to have been part of the Vuma Family. I am going to miss my listeners and my team. It was a new territory for me and I learnt a lot about myself from it. My passion has always been to empower young people and unfortunately Vuma (FM) has an older audience and I want to focus more on younger people‚” DJ Sbu said.
The radio jock announced that he will be leaving the station at the end of February. Nevertheless, he’s not leaving his fans high and dry as he promised that he would soon return to radio with an exciting new project.
“I am going to focus on other projects that empower young people and I have an exciting new project in the pipeline that involves the radio space‚” Sbu said.
Meanwhile, Sbu confirmed that he will remain as a host on the breakfast show on Rise FM.
