At the memorial held in honour of the veteran, the creator of Generations: The Legacy revealed that the studio where the popular soapie is filmed will now be known as The Joe Mafela Studio.

Speaking during the memorial service of the actor on Thursday afternoon, Mfundi reminisced on the late actor’s contributions in the industry. He said that Joe brought audiences to the SABC and his contribution deserves a befitting recognition. Thus, it is not surprising that the studio which is currently known as studio 5 will now be called The Joe Mafela Studio.

“Without the content and the people who bring audiences‚ the SABC is brick and mortar. Joe brought audiences.”

On a personal note, Mfundi spoke about how Joe helped him to acclimatize when he returned to South Africa after spending so many years overseas. “He was my friend. I’ve lost a friend.”

Veteran actor Joe Mafela passed away on Saturday night following a road accident which happened on the M1 North in Johannesburg. Though he was involved in a car crash, authorities think the actor apparently died from a medical condition. This is based on the fact that Mafela who was found dead at the scene of the accident did not sustain apparent injuries during the crash, metro police said on Sunday.
