A 20-year-old woman appeared before the Molopo Magistrate Court on Monday for allegedly stabbing her 40-year-old sugar daddy to death after he assaulted and raped her.
The young woman Princess Nomzamo Mohlonhlong allegedly stabbed her sugar daddy Carlito Mothuki with a knife on Saturday in Tshidilamolomo village outside Mahikeng in North West.
The case was adjourned until May 16 to make room for further investigations.
Magistrate Ravana Jacobs released Mohlonhlong on R300 bail after her revelation that her deceased sugar daddy had raped her a few minutes before his demise. The court also heard she had registered a case of rape against the deceased prior to the case.
The accused together with Mothuki’s close friend and neighbour Kgomotso Poleng narrated that the fight between the couple started in the early hours of Saturday.
According to Poleng, Mohlonhlong told her that they were engaged in a fight over sex. The couple was coming from a tavern and on their way back to their rented room, Mothuki started beating Mohlonhlong until she ran away.
He later demanded to have his way with her in the bushes and when Mohlonhlong refused, her sugar daddy then allegedly assaulted and raped her, dragged her home where he allegedly continued to beat her up.
As the fight progressed, Mohlonhlong opened a cupboard and pulled out a sharp knife and allegedly stabbed the sugar daddy in self-defense.
When it was clear that he was dead, she ran to neighbors for help. Shortly, an ambulance arrived together with the police and she was arrested.
Mohlonhlong at such tender age is said to have lived with an abusive man who always forcefully demanded sex from her and sometimes brought home other women and slept with them while she watched. A neighbour said;
He gave her a lot of money but he was really abusing her. I advised him to leave her and find someone who was willing to sleep with him every time he wanted sex but he refused.
Poleng added that Mohlonhlong once told her that the reason her boyfriend abused her was because she was an orphan.
“Her parents died when she was only two years old. She has a sister but they do not live together, so this man was her only life. He gave her shelter, clothes, and money and in return he wanted sex.”
Mothuki worked with a local contractor as a foreman to build a crèche in the area. He gave Mohlonlong R2300 to buy a cellphone and some clothes on March 1, before leaving to visit his wife and children in Mabopane, Pretoria.
“I went with her to buy the clothes in town; she also bought an R800 cellphone. He was giving her money but abusive,” she said.
Thusego Mmoki who is also their neighbor said that Mothuki had a kind heart but he abused his girlfriend.
“He was kind, helpful and always laughed. The only problem was when he fought with his girlfriend.”
“It was bad, he would hit her with everything he came across,” he said.
The court is yet to decide on the case.
