Zuma’s Axe Likely To Fall On Minister Faith Muthambi Soon

Emerging reports making the rounds say the axe could likely to fall on Communication Minister Faith Muthambi.

It is understood that Muthambi’s poor management of the deepening crisis at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is the primary reason why Zuma wants her fired.

The minister until late has been the most vocal supporter of SABC embattled former COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng. On several occasions, she publicly expressed her support for Motsoeneng – including leading a legal battle in his honour.

In the face of the broadcaster’s crisis, the minister’s messages and disciplinary language against the former COO had suggested that she single-handedly led a self-styled policy coup, just to please Hlaudi, despite Madonsela’s report against his appointment.

Anyway, many had wanted to see her step down long ago. And as gathered, her departure could pave a way for her bubbly deputy, Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams, who have been so relevant in government.

Reports also had it that the axe could also fall on controversial Mineral Resources Minister Mosebeni Zwane. Zwane’s likely dismissal from office is linked to his restatement on a Gupta-probe comment he issued last month.

Zwane is said to have ties with the Guptas. He reportedly played a role in the private jet carrying guests for a Gupta wedding in Sun City, landing at Waterkloof Airforce Base in 2013.

In September, the minister raised some dust after he issued a statement, calling for the establishment of a judicial inquiry into the closing of the Gupta family’s bank accounts.

He also claimed that the statement was issued on behalf of the cabinet – which President Zuma and the entire cabinet hurriedly denied.

And since then, Zuma has been under pressure to vehemently discipline the minister of Mineral Resources, Mosebenzi Zwane over a “reckless” and “appalling” statement.

Meanwhile, BuzzSouthAfrica learnt that Zuma might likely shift Zwane to the department of Water and Sanitation. And if the speculations are anything to go by, Water and Sanitation Minister Ms. Nomvula Mokonyane will take over Zwane’s seat as Mineral Resources Minister.
