South Africa’s first lady of sport Carol Tshabalala dropped a bombshell when she revealed that she once turned a job offer from world-renowned TV station CNN.
CNN is America’s leading cable channel and surely, it’s not wrong to say it’s every broadcaster’s dream to work there. On the contrary, Carol said that she once declined an offer from them. Now, that’s brave. But, at least she had good reasons.
On the contrary, Carol said that she once declined an offer from them. Now, that’s brave. But, at least she had good reasons.
The sports presenter spilled the beans on Real Talk with Anele Mdoda, citing various reasons why she turned down the offer.
For the love of serenity and tranquility, Carol couldn’t imagine having to raise her kids in the hustling and bustling cities of America. Of course, accepting the offer would have seen her move to the States and she won’t have it that way.
“First of all: my kids growing up in the States? No. I love the [States] to visit. You know, like I’ll go there and I’ll come back. Haai no, the life there is just too fast,” she told Anele.
Again, the almighty CNN is focused on news, not sports which has Carol’s undivided attention. Thus, she wouldn’t be able to anchor live sports on a global platform like in her current gig on SuperSport.
“If you really break it down, I’m all about sports. CNN is news. They don’t have any rights to anything, so for me, it didn’t satisfy what it is that I wanted to do, and how it is that I wanted to take my sporting career even further. And that’s why I say, what I’m doing now with SuperSport – I mean we do everything, you know. It really is a global broadcaster.”
Carol Tshabalala also revealed that apart from CNN, she has turned down other jobs that did not appeal to her ambition.
