ANCYL Clueless Choice For Another Zuma Foretells Disaster For SA – DA

The democratic alliance launched a scathing attack on the youth wing of the ruling African National Congress (ANCYL) for their continued support for Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma as Zuma’s Successor.

The attack came after the League named its top leadership preference for the ruling party’s 54th national elective conference scheduled for December this year.

In a media briefing at ANC headquarters Luthuli House in Johannesburg following the recently concluded national executive committee (NEC) meeting at the weekend, the ANCYL leader Collen Maine formally named the former AU Commission chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma as its candidate while Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza becomes her deputy.

In reaction to this, the DA said the ANCYL choice of successor will give nothing new to the party and the country because  Dlamini-Zuma is just a female phase of Zuma.

Referring to ANCYL as a group that has become Zuma’s cheerleaders whose Maine mission is to secure their own political careers to ensure continued access to state coffers for their own enrichment, the DA said it’s never surprised the organisation chose to support Zuma’s choice.

The Party went on to note its two reasons it believed Dlamini-Zuma would do worst jobs than Zuma. One of its points is that she attacked hundreds of thousands of South Africans who took to the streets to protest against Jacob Zuma, using the old trick of reducing the motivation to racism and claiming that these South Africans wanted to oppose the ‘radical economic transformation’, a concept that she, nor any in the ANC seem to be able to define.

Another is her recent attacked schools, claiming that children in Model C schools are “taught to hate the ANC, and taught that the ANC is corrupt, ANC is bad”.  She went further to say that some universities‚ such as Wits‚ would not let their students refer to South Africa as a democracy.

These views are extremely destructive to nation building and confidence in the economy, meaning fewer economic opportunities for young South Africans.

With youth unemployment currently at 65.7% the ANCYL choice shows that they don’t care about young people getting jobs and getting ahead.

Just like her ex-husband, Dlamini-Zuma is an economic wrecking ball…

South Africa and our youth deserve much better and that is what the DA will deliver in 2019 – a government that will prioritise the advancement of the youth over political and financial self-interest, said the opposition party the DA.

DA’s comment about the ANCYL choice of leadership brings to mind comments by a leading political analyst where he described the ANCYL’s choice of leadership as a “recipe for disaster” for the ruling party’s electoral fortunes in 2019.

ANCYL secretary-general Njabulo Nzuza announced the league’s candidates for the ANC’s top six positions as follows:

  • President: Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma
  • Deputy President: Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza
  • Secretary-general: Free State Premier Ace Magashule
  • National Chairperson: Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa
  • DSG [deputy secretary-general] for monitoring and evaluation: deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte
  • DSG for organising and campaigns: Police Minister Fikile Mbalula
  • Treasurer-general: International Relations Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane

Reacting to this list, analysts Mathekga said the list showed no willingness by the league to compromise on some issues.

“If elected this way, the new leadership will have an outright credibility crisis.

“The list also shows that some members of the ANC lack a sense of awareness regarding the pulse of society in relation to the ANC,” Mathekga added.

When asked why Cyril Ramphosa was not their presidency choice, Collen Maine, said there was nothing special about Dlamini-Zuma’s presidential contender, Cyril Ramaphosa, and though they respected him, they wanted Dlamini-Zuma.

Political experts and the DA believe ANCYL leadership choice proves the ruling party has no intention to correct all its mistakes
