ANC Will Take Action Against Members Supporting Fransman

Remember Fransman? The ANC Western Cape Chairperson who was asked to step down pending investigation on the sexual assault allegations against him, and was subsequently removed from office?

Well, a Facebook Group Page named “Friends of Marius Fransman” emerged to support Fransman after he claimed that he’s been unfairly treated by the decision makers of the party.

The group raised a clarion call, calling on the ANC NEC to bring back Fransman as the Western Cape Chairperson. “We the people of the WC are calling on you to listen to our plea.

Only as a united force can we fight the DA successfully. Bring back our democratically elected Chairperson, unify the ANC WC, let democracy, non-racialism and unity rise!” Fransman’s friends demanded.

Responding, the ANC warned that it will take action against members rallying behind Fransman. Speaking, provincial spokesperson Jabu Mfusi said; “people must desist from using social media, for or against leadership.

It is painful that we don’t have the chairperson and the provincial secretary, but it is an internal decision of the ANC which everybody must respect.”

We are going to take action. It’s important that we call these people (supporters of Fransman) individually. We read their Facebook (posts), we read everything that they continue to do (in) embarrassing the ANC as an organisation.

We cannot wash our laundry in public. People have joined the movement as individuals, they did not join as a group (in support of Fransman), they must take responsibility.”

IOL related that a long-time ally of Fransman, Theunissen Andrews commented that any action against Fransman supporters would be “disastrous for the ANC.

Basically, that means if people are oppressed, we (as ANC members) aren’t allowed to support them… What’s wrong in supporting Marius Fransman? He’s a member and a colleague,” Andrews stated.
