Embattled Marius Fransman Resigns


Battered and crestfallen ANC Western Cape leader, Marius Fransman has resigned as a member of the provincial legislature.

Speaking to reporters on Friday morning, the embattled leader confirmed that he is no longer a member of the Western Cape legislature.

He, however, noted that his resignation doesn’t affect his membership in the African National Congress (ANC); as he is still a full-fledged member of the ruling party.

Earlier on Friday, Fransman received another damning judgement from the Western Cape High Court. The court ruled against his application to avoid appearing before the Provincial Legislature’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa).

Fransman In Standoff With Scopa

Scopa had in 2014 demanded answers from Fransman and then fellow ANC member Pierre Uys on why the Western Cape government lavished billions of rands on consultants over a period of three years.

But, Fransman, who was then the provincial leader brushed Scopa aside; refusing to answer the questions. The pair argued that Scopa should have submitted their questions in writing first.

They also demanded that the committee extend the time for their appearance. But, when the committee rejected their demands; Fransman roped them to the Western Cape High Court.

Today, the court dismissed his application and also ordered him to pay the legislature’s legal costs.

Fransman has been fighting tough battles since the beginning of the year. Currently, the beleaguered provincial leader facing rape charges; after his 20-year-old personal assistance, who was working at a wine estate before her employment; accused him of rape in January.

According to the young woman, she was assaulted on their way to ANC’s 104 birthday celebration in Rustenburg in the North West.

It was gathered that the ANC Western Cape Leader told the lady to be at ease with his advances if she truly wants the job. However, the lady maintained in her docket; that she objected the leader’s advances even when the Fransman pleaded with her to act like an adult.

She later summoned the courage and approached the North West and laid a complaint against Western Cape Leader Marius Fransman with the Sun City police. Fransman was subsequently asked to step down pending an outcome of an investigation into the sexual harassment charges against him.
