What You Need To Know About IEB
IEB stands for Independent Examinations Board. The organization is a South African private assessment agency that sets examinations for various client schools, especially private schools. IEB’s major role is to offer examination services to interested client schools.
Records have it that the agency was established in the first place to challenge the apartheid ideas of separation, which, at the time, were solely based on race. Many years down the line, IEB is still relevant and waxing strong. It has worked with various client schools for years and assisted hundreds of learners in making their academic dreams a reality through IEB schools.
The Independent Examinations Board is accredited by the Pretoria-based educational institution, Umalusi Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training.
IEB Is Recognized Internationally
Yes, most people don’t know this. However, we can establish that IEB is internationally recognized. In fact, it is a known fact that the IEB school-leaving exams are equivalent to the UK AS Levels.
The English and Mathematics programmes they offer to client schools are the same as the UK A Levels. So, both their examinations and advanced programmes prepare learners for both South Africa and the world.
Is IEB Different From NSC?
The National Senior Certificate (NSC) is the national high school certificate issued to learners after completing their high school education. This qualification is commonly known as the matric certificate, but its formal name is NSC.
There is no big difference between IEB and NSC. The only difference between the two qualifications is that IEB basically prepares students for life abroad. It is pertinent to note that matriculants’ NSC examinations are either set by the Department of Basic Education or the Independent Examination Board. The IEB uses the South African National Curriculum, which the Department of Basic Education regulates, so there’s little or no difference here.
The bottom line is you need to consider what you are capable of as a learner and your personal needs before choosing between NSC and IEB.
