After a near-death experience that left one person dead and another injured, SA music legend Yvonne Chaka Chaka has expressed gratitude to God for escaping alive.

The star was nearly caught in the crossfire of a Midrand shooting which took place on Tuesday afternoon.

According to reports‚ the shootout started after three men stole a panel van and the police followed in hot pursuit. As a result, the police engaged the hijackers in a shooting spree which claimed a life.

Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini explained further;

“At approximately 2.30pm, three suspects who had hijacked a Mercedes­ Benz panel van in Centurion were involved in a shootout with police.”

Dlamini said police were in pursuit of the suspects at the time of the shootout.

“Two suspects were shot, one died at the scene and another was wounded and airlifted to the hospital under police guard.” However, the third suspect managed to escape. Two firearms, a pistol and R4 rifle were recovered after the incident. Moreover, no police officers were killed or injured.

Meanwhile, internationally acclaimed singer Yvonne Chaka Chaka barely managed to escape with her life as she was nearly caught in the crossfire during the shooting.

Thus, she took to Twitter shortly after the incident to relive her own version of the incident which she called a “scary” experience. She told a concerned fan that police started shooting at the car next to her.

This could have resulted in something fatal even though she was minding her business. Yvonne described the incident as something she has only seen in the movies and thanked her followers for all the love.

Subsequently, she shared a picture from the scene saying that she was grateful to have survived.
