Two police officer are presently being investigated for allegedly raping teenage girls.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) confirmed this disclosing that a 34-year-old police constable attached to the Sandton police station in Gauteng, and a police sergeant in Oudtshoorn, Cape Town are roped in the allegations.
The 34-year-old police constable allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl in Rabie Ridge near Midrand.
Ipid related that the police constable raped the teenager twice while her mother was at work in their rented room in Rabie Ridge. And that the victim was visiting her mom to help baby sit her younger brother.
“A case of rape was opened and investigated by Ipid. The suspect was arrested, detained at Ivory Park Police Station and he appeared at the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on 03 May 2016, on charges of rape. The matter has rolled over to 20 May 2016, for formal bail application. The suspect is remanded in custody,” Ipid stated.
Likewise, the Cape Town police sergeant allegedly raped a 14-year old girl.
As alleged, the sergeant was spending weekend at his mother’s place with his sister and her two teenage girls. The police sergeant reportedly returned home drunk one evening and asked for food which the 14 year old victim and sister prepared for him.
The girls returned to sleep and thereafter, the police sergeant invaded their room, raped the 14-year old girl and then, threatened to kill her if she report him.
BuzzSouthAfrica learnt that the girl reported the sergeant. A rape case was opened against the policeman at Oudtshoorn Police Station.
Aside raping teenage girls, another police constable was arrested yesterday’s night after he was linked to a cash-in-transit robbery in Cape Town.
Commenting, Hawks Lieutenant Lloyd Ramovha related that “investigations into the circumstances of the robbery led to the arrest of a 33-year-old police constable at his residence in Khayelitsha.”
According to Ramovha, the police constable “is stationed at the Nyanga police station and used an official vehicle in the execution of the crime.”
He and other suspects “pulled over a cash-in-transit at Wabrug Road and robbed the guards at gunpoint of an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene,” divulged the lieutenant.
