The kids have spoken and South African comedian Trevor Noah walked away with a 2017 Nickelodeon Kids Choice award.
Trevor won big at the glitzy ceremony held in Los Angeles, California, taking home the trophy for Favourite African Star. He beat fellow South Africans Pearl Thusi and Wayde Van Niekerk, Nigeria’s Yemi Alade and Funke Akindele Bello, and Kenyan Lupita Nyong’o to clinch the coveted orange ‘blimp’. This was after several kids across the continent voted for their favourite TV star.
Trevor accepted his award on the set of The Daily Show with much gratitude to his young fans for their support.
While receiving his award on his TV show, Noah quipped;
“Nickelodeon! And the kids! Thank you so much for this amazing award, I am so honoured to be your Favourite African Star. Thank you so much for giving me this Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award.”
Wittingly peering inside his award, Noah continued;
“Did you know that it’s a kaleidoscope? I didn’t know that, you can see things — oh look at that! I can see Africa. Oh-oh-oh… I wanna go home (fake sad facial expression). Thanks again everybody.”
You can watch as Trevor collects his award when the ceremony premiers on African TV on Nickelodeon (DStv channel 305) and NickToons (DStv channel 308) at 15:40 CAT on Wednesday 15 March.
Taking to Twitter after getting his 2017 Nickelodeon Kids Choice award, Trevor was supposedly surprised that kids chose him. He said he had never been chosen by other kids at school but was now very popular.
Thank you Nickelodeon and thank you to the kids for choosing me. Kids never chose me in school but better late than never!!! 😭❤🙏🏽 https://t.co/FF11yEfCId
